Glasgow Cathedral

I think my favorite thing about Glasgow besides just the general feel of a town in Scotland was this cathedral. It was built in the 11th century and is the only cathedral on the Scotish mainland to survive the 16th century reformers who destroyed anything they deemed idolatrous, which included many of Scotland's ancient churches. It was built about the same time as the parish I saw in Christchurch but was extremely different.
The materials used in this cathedral were so different, here you can see there is a wood ceiling, but same arched structure, really beautiful
Underneath the main chapel you can go down into this....I don't know what it's called or its purpose, but it was creepy. The rock is so dark in this cathedral and it had really dim lighting. Didn't help that most of the time I was the only one down there! St. Mungo (which makes me thing of Harry Potter, he is the patron saint of Glasgow who lived in the 7th century) is buried there along with a bunch of other people.
I found this little section of the creepy underground piece of the chapel dedicated to nurses, a little place for us to pray. I sat there for a while until I got too creeped out by a coffin that was right next to the chapel.
The church was partially really incredible because of all the stained glass windows. This is the main one in the front of the chapel. It's kind of hard to see but it outlines all the phases of the creation of the earth, culminating in Adam and Eve seen at the bottom. Really incredible.
